FAQs

OAHU, HAWAII
RESULTS-ORIENTED PHYSICAL THERAPY

Mobile Physio therapy offering the results you've been waiting for

  • WHY SHOULD I COME TO PHYSIO WELLNESS?
Traditional outpatient PT clinics are fast and busy, and attention from your provider is often divided. At Physio Wellness, you have private one-on-one care by a professional who is truly present. Leah continues to work diligently to attend a multitude of continuing education courses, as well as maintain her personal study habits so that her knowledge about the human body is paramount. Receiving treatment by a Certified Functional Manual Therapist (CFMT) is truly a unique experience as Leah is the only CFMT located in the state of Hawaii. Obtaining this certification involved years of study, many courses, and rigorous written and practical testing. This approach is also combined with concepts from the Barral Institute, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), and Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation.
  • WHAT TO EXPECT?
The initial evaluation and follow-up visits are sixty or ninety minutes long. Frequency of visits is recommended by the physical therapist on your first visit. However, this is ultimately decided by the patient. Patients typically come once per week to get started and taper as condition and body autonomy improve. In each session, you can expect to receive hands-on manual therapy techniques, including: Soft tissue and joint mobilization. Visceral & neural manipulation. Internal & external pelvic floor mobilization. Neuromuscular re-education. Patient education. A highly individualized home exercise program. Please wear unrestrictive clothing that you can easily move around in such as gym shorts and a loose tank top. Women should wear a sports bra or bikini top if working on the upper body.
  • DO I NEED A DOCTOR’S REFERRAL?
According to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the state of Hawaii is an unrestricted Direct Access State, meaning a patient may receive physical therapy care without a referral from another healthcare provider. Physical therapists are qualified to evaluate and determine if a patient’s condition is beyond the physical therapist’s scope of practice. If that is the case, referral will be made to the appropriate healthcare provider. This allows quicker access to care, quicker resolution of problems, and decreased costs. Some insurance companies require a referral or pre-authorization for reimbursement. It is recommended that insurance plan details are clarified if you plan to submit.
  • WHAT IS MANUAL THERAPY?
Manual therapy means using our hands to assess and treat the neuromusculoskeletal system in order to improve mobility, strength, decrease pain, and promote efficient movement patterns.
  • WHAT TYPES OF HEALTH INSURANCE DO YOU ACCEPT?
Physio Wellness LLC is an out-of-network provider, meaning we do not contract with any health insurance companies. If you have out-of-network benefits with your health insurance that you would like to use, an itemized receipt called a Superbill will be provided after each session upon request. Patients may use the Superbill as their receipt to give to their health insurance company in order to file a claim. Patients who receive insurance from Medicare are not eligible to file a claim because Physio Wellness LLC is not a Medicare provider. All patients are responsible for payment in full to Physio Wellness LLC at the time of each appointment. If using out-of-network benefits, your health insurance may reimburse you, depending on your type of coverage anywhere from 50-80%. It is recommended that you clarify plan details with your health insurance provider if you plan to submit a superbill. Payment is accepted by HSA/FSA accounts, cash, credit card, and check.
  • WHY DON'T YOU ACCEPT HEALTH INSURANCE?
Physio Wellness does not contract with insurance for a number of reasons. Health insurance companies have consistently lowered reimbursement rates for physical therapy services and frequently limit the types of treatment they will cover. Physio Wellness prides itself on its focus of quality over quantity to be able to provide highly individualized and skilled hour-long sessions. In order to be the best physio possible, Leah spends thousands of dollars per year going to multiple continuing education courses so that she can learn numerous techniques and information from practitioners from around the world. Depending on your insurance, you are still able to make insurance claims on your own using your Superbill.
  • CANCELLATION POLICY
24-hour cancellation policy. A cancellation less than 24 hours in advance or no-show to your appointment will result in a cancellation fee of $60. Unusual circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • COVID 19 POLICY
We are following CDC guidelines for all visitors to our space. If you have tested positive, aren’t feeling well in any capacity, have been exposed to COVID-19, or are exhibiting any symptoms, please do not come into the clinic.
